Caroline Gibello is a South African fine art nature and wildlife photographer, and founder of the Galleria Gibello chain of art galleries in Cape Town, South Africa. Her photography career started at the age of 21 when she travelled to the Himalayas with her Canon SLR and a desire to see the natural world. The serene spirituality and breath-taking landscape inspired a passion for adventure, which still burns strong.
Inspired by the adventure of life, Caroline’s work conveys a strong sense of beauty and reverence for nature. Her images bear witness to the multi-colors, textures and tapestries of the world in which we live. Her love of Africa and her insatiable thirst for travel have led to a body of work imbued with a quiet serene essence and a deep appreciation of the natural world.
Caroline’s photographic prints have a signature sun bleached palette and soft toned hues. They are her unique and intuitive way of expressing her innate appreciation for our planet. In sharing her images, Caroline hopes to contribute to the critical shift in consciousness around the preservation and conservation of our precious home.
Caroline’s images portray her enduring affinity with Africa, she explains: “My journey in Africa began a long time ago. The call of the wild inhabits the deep recesses of my soul. A primordial longing to connect with the force of nature resides deep within my being. This journey fuels the wild beating of my free will. It is one which I love to share. Africa is in me as it is in you. It is a deep resounding, pulsating life force, alive with rich memories of where we all have been and where we all long to go, to be alive.”
Since her breakthrough series of photographs, Caroline’s work has been collected by hotels, art collectors, interior decorators, and national art collections. Her work has been exhibited in Cape Town, India, Italy, Hamburg and New York. In January 2009, one of her early photographs was selected for the first issue of the National Geographic Traveler South Africa. Another of her photographs has since been selected for the second issue of the same magazine. Her wildlife African prints hang on the walls of the Reserve Bank South Africa, University of Cape Town (UCT), Tuynhuys (The Presidency), as well as Deutsche Bank (New York).
Caroline’s imagery is instantly recognizable, the light and composition uniquely hers. Each picture conveys a quiet surrender, rather than active pursuit, which gives a genuineness and gentleness to her images. We are delighted to bring these collector’s items to our artwork collection and happy to share Caroline’s, and our, deep love of Africa.
