Since breaking onto the design scene in 2016, Gold Bottom Pots has been on a mission: to make plants proud, elevating them with beautiful and unique designer plantware. The hand-cast and hand-painted concrete planters have striking designs inspired by South Africa’s rich culture. Crafted in small batches, the process takes time and requires exceptional craftsmanship and artistry. Every pot features the signature gold base, giving it beautiful detail from top to bottom.
The company was founded by Nikki Schomer, an entrepreneur interested in design since a young age - though what she wanted to design has changed over the years. Having interned at an architectural firm and then spent several years in the fashion industry before starting her own interior goods brand, Nikki draws inspiration from a wide range of design fields.
The pots have a distinctive and elegant shape that showcases the designs with which they are adorned. The beauty of African art is often geometry, simplicity and bold use of color. Gold Bottom Pots deliver this to perfection. Whether it’s the Namib collection, inspired by the sand and rock formations of the Namib desert, or the bold, monochrome Fields of Gold collection.
The brand is proudly South African and favors a hand-over-machine approach, producing all the pots locally, from start to finish, in Cape Town. From the first mix to the last polish, the small but highly skilled team works closely together resulting in high quality, minimal waste and low environmental impact.
With indoor spaces increasingly being designed with plants in mind, it’s no longer an option to settle for a non-descript terracotta pot. When everything else inside your home is so carefully considered, your plants should be too. Gold Bottom Pots offers planters with presence and meaning which are versatile enough to be used in homes, commercial spaces and covered outdoor settings.
Bold. Original. Striking. That’s why we’ve chosen these beautiful planters for you – they are quintessentially African and will bring something different and unique to your home. When you purchase one of these planters, you have invested in a product that took careful handcrafting, is made to last, and respects people and the environment. These pots literally have a gold lining and we know they will elevate your plants and home decor to the next level.
