The willowlamp story began with a simple yet ingenious idea: the willowlamp notch system that allows curtains of ball-chain to flow elegantly from laser-cut steel frames. Shaped by the principles of geometry and built with world-class lighting technology, craftsmanship and superior materials, these are timeless yet functional works of art. The willowlamp notch was patented in 2007, making this lighting a unique and original design feature for your home.
The man behind the innovative design is Adam Hoets, the founder and creative director of willowlamp. Adam graduated as an architect from the University of Cape Town and then specialized in designing sustainable buildings that integrate harmoniously into their surroundings with sculptural forms. He is inspired by nature’s sculptural forms and imbues his designs with the beauty he sees everywhere. His obsessive understanding of each design results in beautiful products that combine aesthetics and technical detail. His commitment to high-end quality is found in every willowlamp, from the most breath-taking chandelier to a simple table lamp.
Over the years willowlamp has built a reliable team of partners, specialist industrial suppliers and in-house professionals whose work and skill are vital to willowlamp’s success. The industrial partners deliver precision laser-cut, machined and finished components. This enables the factory team to hand-assemble each willowlamp with meticulous attention to detail. A professional in-house support team ensures that willowlamps are shipped with care to clients all over the world.
Each lamp is painstakingly created in-house at the factory in Cape Town. All components are made from the highest quality materials available and the willowlamp team have scoured the earth to find the best lighting systems and technologies to integrate into the designs. The team is also in in the process of integrating energy efficient alternatives into their lamp, chandelier and lighting designs.
Since inception in 2005, willowlamp has won several prestigious awards including the Elle Décor overall designer of the year award. The lamps and chandeliers can be found in some of the most prestigious private homes, commercial and hospitality spaces in the world, including Tao restaurant in New York City (below right).
Each willowlamp is custom made and the standard collection is divided into four main groupings: Lamps, Pendants, Chandeliers and Art Forms. Each lamp is available in different finishes, with the height and length of the pendants and chandeliers tailored to suit your space.
The team also offer a fully bespoke service and love working with interior designers, homeowners and venues to create the perfect design. This is a process that Adam Hoets and his team find incredibly rewarding - they encourage clients to let their imagination run wild! The team have created everything from a design for a large hotel foyer to something small and delicate for a private home, to a massive 3-tonne sculptural lighting installation. Those who design their own willowlamp have a true one-off that does not exist anywhere else in the world.
Just take a look at the pictures – need we say more, they are just stunning! We love that these patented and award-winning designs are unique and completely customizable. When you choose in a willowlamp it is a true investment in style, creativity and individual expression.
