Hand thrown with a minimalist approach to form making and layered with considered carved or trailed pattern on the surface.
Inspired by a love for nature, clay, henna and architecture. These vessels are built from slabs of raku clay. The raku clay is locally sourced from the KZN Midlands in South African. The pattern is applied using the henna technique; known in ceramics as slip trailing. The pattern is a reinterpretation of traditional eastern cultural symbols and African iconography.
The tactile experience of the textured slip trailing contrasts the smooth surface of the burnished clay.
Lines and dots: an abstraction of elements is used in Eastern and African pattern construction. Lines are used in a linear or concentric manner. Dots are organised in a grid configuration and to anchor linear slip trails.
The surface of the vessel is burnished, bisque fired and smoke fired. The smoke firing creates a smoky earthy colouring to the smooth surface of the vessel and the clay is infused with a smoky aroma.
Available in 2 sizes, small and medium, and in 2 patterns, linear scarification and henna.
The henna pattern is constructed from her expertise in the art form. They are a contemporary interpretation of henna motifs with African, Arabic and Indian references.
Can be used as a drinking vessel, tableware, a decorative piece or a small planter.

I am a multi disciplinary creative, who is constantly learning, experimenting and seeking truth in everything I make. I experiment with clay, photography and mixed media on various surfaces. I explore traditional patterns and graphics through a contemporary lens, reinterpret- ing traditional eastern cultural symbolism, and incorporating contemporary african iconography. My recent work focuses on textures and patterns on the vessels and the three dimen- sional surfaces I create, using clay and slip trailing. My home-studio is located in kzn, south africa and I strive for sustainable practices in my process of making art. Born in mauritius, I made south africa my home in 2008. I graduated in bachelor in ar- chitectural studies in 2013 at nelson mandela university. I am a designer, an artist, an entrepreneur and a lecturer.
