Karoo Stone Vase

Beautiful on its own as a piece of functional art or filled with blooms. This one-of-a-kind stoneware vase was hand thrown on a kickwheel. Earthy outer finish with fine striations etcehd into the finish. An aqua turquoise glaze inside the vase.

The handcrafted nature and manner in which these are made means there will be variations in symmetry, dimensions and glazes and colour may vary slightly from the image.

Tungoma pottery items are thrown on a Japanese kick wheel. This is pottery made the slow way. The Ceramicist chose to build his own wheel, it is a Japanese style kick wheel which means it doesn't rely on electricity and is powered instead by kicking it. It requires a different skill set entirely when it comes to throwing clay. It also gives his work even more of a tactile-made-by-the-human-hand feeling.
