Stoneware Bowl Toffee

Beautiful on its own as a piece of functional art or filled with food or fruit. This one-of-a-kind stoneware bowl was hand thrown on a kickwheel. Dark clay outer finish with a toffee coloured, painterly glaze around the rim.

The handcrafted nature and manner in which these are made means there will be variations in symmetry, dimensions and glazes. Each item is singular, though similar in shape and size, no two items are identical and colour may vary slightly from the image.

Tungoma pottery items are thrown on a Japanese kick wheel. This is pottery made the slow way. The Ceramicist chose to build his own wheel, it is a Japanese style kick wheel which means it doesn't rely on electricity and is powered instead by kicking it. It requires a different skill set entirely when it comes to throwing clay. It also gives his work even more of a tactile-made-by-the-human-hand feeling.
