Live Edge Furniture is a labor of love for founders of Umdabu Robert and Michael. They are passionate about the natural beauty of wood and love the idea of breathing life and value into objects which were previously untouched. Live Edge Wood slab benches are made by selecting the perfect piece of wood from the workshop. Once you’ve done that, seeing the piece come together is a truly rewarding experience. Umdabu's wood is sourced entirely in Africa and each furniture piece is 100% handcut, sanded and finished at the Umdabu workshop in South Africa. The inspiration for each item comes from its natural beauty.

The matumi is a majestic evergreen tree, which can grow up to 100 ft in height and lives predominantly in riverine forests and along banks of permanent rivers. Its wood, also refered to as 'Woodworkers Friend' is very heavy and hard, with beautiful yellow to light brown colours and is used not only for boats, floors and construction work but also lends itself to the making of fine furniture. -

The wooden bench has a rubio monocoat oil finish and a powder-coated ferro-grain black metal base.
