African wire decorative Jaheni bowl collection - black | white

1 item left

  • A collection of Jaheni bowls in black and white wire, handmade by African woman.

Decorative use of wire in South Africa dates back hundreds of years, and its modern equivalent takes the form of brightly colored plastic-coated copper, more commonly known as telephone wire.
Prominent South African designer Marisa Fick-Jordaan started Zenzulu out of a desire to create eco-friendly, fairly traded products, while also providing mentorship to unemployed South African women. She first began working with five weavers from a squatter camp outside Durban, and today Zenzulu supports the work of 300 weavers, of whom 80 percent are women and the sole income providers for their families.

  • Small Bowl: 4" x 2"
    Medium Bowl: 6" x 2.5"
    Large Bowl: 7" x 3"

  • Brightly colored plastic-coated copper, more commonly known as telephone wire.

My favorite store in RYE

Sarza is my favorite specialty merchandise store in Rye. I started shopping there soon after Sarah & her husband John opened it.They are charming, helpful & knowledgeable owners. I call it "the African" store. They carry a huge collection of items primarily made in South Africa, but also unique artifacts from other African countries. Whenever I need a gift for my family member or a friend, I know that I will find something beautiful & unusual at Sarza.I own several Lalela scarves. They have fantastic, vibrant colors & individual design. Part of the sale profits support a non-profit educational program for young at-risk youth. I have given several to my daughters. They love them. It was at Sarza where my husband & I found modern Cha Cha outdoor tables We bought 3 in different sizes & colors to serve as coffee tables with our sitting arrangement.I know the everyone will enjoy shopping at Sarza.

Thanks for this amazing review Joanna - you have certainly been supportive right from the beginning, and we do appreciate you and your visits so much!
