  • Lalela scarves feature inspiring designs from young artists in Lalela after school programs. Proceeds from each scarf sale go towards helping young innovators find their voice and overcome the narrative of poverty through the transformative power of arts education.

This artwork comes from a curriculum where our Lalela learners studied the abstract artist, Yayoi Kusama. They learned about her struggles with depression and mental illness and how she celebrates the wonder of life and her power to overcome difficulties using her art. Through learning color theory as well as studying shape and form, Shaun, Elton, Joan and Ethel from the townships of Hout Bay, created this magnificent piece of art.
