Our Founder’s Story

We are Sarah and John, founders of SARZA. Our business was born from a shared passion for exceptional design and a desire to showcase the extraordinary creativity of South Africa.

Both raised in the vibrant coastal city of Durban, South Africa, we grew up surrounded by a rich blend of African, European and Indian influences. From handcrafted Zulu pottery and intricate beadwork to bold textiles and artisanal craftsmanship, design was woven into everyday life. This instilled in us a deep appreciation for authenticity, creativity and the stories behind beautifully made objects.

Our careers took us into the world of yachting. Working with discerning clients and sourcing products for some of the world's most exclusive yachts gave us invaluable experience in identifying pieces that combine beauty, functionality and enduring appeal.

Throughout our travels, we've always been drawn back to the remarkable designers and makers of South Africa and their unique ability to combine contemporary design with traditional craftsmanship.

Today, from our base in New York, it is our pride and joy to bring the spirit of South African design into homes, hospitality projects and commercial spaces throughout America.
