Following his honeymoon to South Africa, German designer, Sebastian Herkner, was inspired by all the aspects, elements and shades he encountered across so many areas. The Aarde (which means earth) is a representation of this; of the layering that exists culturally, demographically and in the nature and light of Africa. The Aarde has subtly overlapping layers with different depths to create the play with light and minerality that Sebastian saw in the natural landscape and wanted to represent. The earthy colours (brown, red, sandstone...) used in this range are very much part of the story Sebastian wanted to communicate.
Sebastian’s love for traditional craftmanship coupled with a natural affinity for colours, authentic materials and textures and his curiosity for different cultures meant that this collaboration was a natural fit. His works have won numerous accolades – among others the IF Award, the Iconic Award and the Elle Décor International Designer of the Year for 2021 award (Edida) in 2021.

I just finished my dining room project and I couldn’t be happier with my results. The Vintage Birds and Monkeys Chinoiserie Night wallpaper is so gorgeous and dramatic. The people at Sarza were wonderful to work with. I was able to perfectly customize the scale on the paper to fit my large dining room.

We have purchased several James Mudge pieces from Sarza, including this tapered leg table in oak, along with the skinny harvest benches. I ordered the framed canvas “Sardine Dream” in 35”x50” and could not possibly love it more. I feel like I’m transported beneath the surface of the ocean when I look at it. The canvas arrived expertly packaged and is extremely well made. The rustic wood frame is beautiful as well and only enhances this stunning piece of artwork. I ordered several other framed works and cannot wait to get them up on our walls. Sarza is a local gem, and perusing all of the treasures that the owners personally curate is an experience in and of itself. Go see for yourself!
Sarza is a hidden gem for interior designers. I found a lamp (the Bofred lamp) we had been eyeing, but it was South Africa based. Sarza was the only American based company that I could purchase through. They made the process so easy, so friendly.
