Volunteer Point in the Falklands is home to around 2,000 breeding pairs of King Penguins, and every morning the beach comes alive with their ritual. One by one they waddle toward the ocean—some heading out to feed, others simply to bathe. Small groups form, then swell as more penguins join in, especially now that a sea lion has taken to patrolling the shallows. The added threat makes the gathering parties grow even larger as they march up and down the shoreline, hesitating, regrouping, and building their courage… until at last they take the plunge. Watching and photographing this daily march is a naturalist’s dream – these birds are magnificent!

Jackie Wild is a wildlife photographer and photography guide from South Africa with a deep love for nature, wildlife and adventure. She worked as a field guide in a number of private game reserves and still enjoys the thrill of tracking big game. Her love and addiction for the wild drives her to get out into the wilderness areas of Africa and abroad as often as she can. Wildlife photography is not only challenging and highly rewarding for her on a personal level but also means of conveying the beauty of these wild places for others to see, in the hopes that they may be conserved for generations to come.

I ordered the framed canvas “Sardine Dream” in 35”x50” and could not possibly love it more. I feel like I’m transported beneath the surface of the ocean when I look at it.
