  • Matumi Twin Slab Dining Table

      • Live Edge furniture are a labor of love for founders of Umdabu Robert and Michael. They are passionate about the natural beauty of wood and love the idea of breathing life and value into objects which were previously untouched. They believe that perfection is nature, and love being able to incorporate natural elements into contemporary settings.

Live edge Dining Table crafters leave the original gnarled shape of the edge of a tree and often the knots and cracks too, to give a natural touch in the woodwork and retain its irregular loveliness. Because of this, each live edge dining table is an original, one of a kind piece. Live Edge dining tables start with selecting the perfect piece of wood from the workshop. Once you’ve done that, seeing the piece come together is a truly rewarding experience.

The Matumi Slab Dining Table is a timeless work of art and suit most décor styles as it has natural and neutral tones. It brings warmth and life to a room and can add movement and contrast to otherwise straight lines. The wood becomes more than a mere household object. The slab of wood with a natural, live edge uncovers the trees history: growth lines , seasonal patterns and stress points. We’ve seen them in rustic country homes, modern minimalist spaces, industrial settings and even in corporate boardrooms. The possibilities are endless.

The matumi is a majestic evergreen tree, which can grow up to 100 ft in height and lives predominantly in riverine forests and along banks of permanent rivers. Its wood, also refered to as 'Woodworkers Friend' is very heavy and hard, with beautiful yellow to light brown colours and is used not only for boats, floors and construction work but also lends itself to the making of fine furniture.
